Here are some of the things you should consider doing If you are getting a divorce:
1. Make sure you are safe. Above all else, you must ensure that you are safe financially, physically, and emotionally. If you are not able to ensure your safety, we encourage you to seek help as soon as possible.
2. Change all the passwords for your personal accounts. If you have any accounts under solely your name, we highly encourage you to change the passwords to ensure their security from your spouse—especially if they know your current passwords or have access to your accounts. This Includes your email and cell phone password, as your lawyer will likely want to communicate with you using one of those two methods.
3. Make a list of all financial accounts. Your lawyer Is going to ask you questions about what assets you have In your name, In your spouse’s name, and In joint names. It helps If you can keep a list of account names and balances as a reference.
