Meet Tom
Tom Ries joined Wasserman White Family Law as Of Counsel after 28 years of practicing at the preeminent Towson family law firm, Kaufman, Ries & Elgin.
Tom is widely recognized as a leader in family law. His accomplishments include being a Past President of the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), to which Susan and Laurie are Fellows. He served on the National Board of Governors of the AAML from 2008 – 2010, and was Co-Chair of the AAML Institute for Family Law Associates national training program from 2006 – 2018. Tom is also a Certified Family Law Arbitrator by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
Beginning in 2008, Tom became a co-author of Fader’s Maryland Family Law, the leading publication concerning family law issues in Maryland. He has been included in Best Lawyers in America (copyright by Woodward/White, Inc.) for both “Family Law” and “Family Law Mediation”.
Tom has written and lectured on many different family law topics at the national, state, and local levels. Tom was honored in 2020 with the Maryland State Bar Association Family & Juvenile Law Section’s prestigious Beverly Ann Groner Award which is given annually in recognition of a lawyer’s dedication to the practice of family law and who has exemplified the highest professional standards during a distinguished career.
Tom has been an Appointed Member of the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland Peer Review Committee since 2015.
He has also been selected to Maryland Super Lawyers as a Top Family Law Attorney every year since 2007, including Top 10, Top 50, and Top 100 recognition.
Tom resides in Baltimore and enjoys spending time with family (including the family dogs), playing tennis, traveling, and supporting The John Fetting Fund for Breast Cancer Prevention at Johns Hopkins.
